Позвольте не согласиться с Вами. Дело в том, что Smooth Jazz не я вляется самостоятельным направлением в музыке, а является радиоформатом, включающем все современные стили и направления в т. ч. Funk, Contemporary Jazz, Modern Jazz, Urban Jazz и др.

Получается, что такие команды и исполнители как US3, Liquid Soul и Saskia Laroo - это тоже Smooth Jazz?
Ну в таком случае этот термин вообще не подходит для описания музыкального жанра, он является слишком обобщающим.
Это все равно что жанр “Rock”. И Deep Purple это рок, и Pink Floyd это рок, и Dire Straits это рок, и Led Zeppelin это рок и т.д.
Но рок-то этот очень разный, поэтому и вводят уточняющие термины “hard rock”, “psychedelic rock”, “art rock”, “folk rock"…

Review:
Virtually all of saxophonist Gerald Albright’’s previous recordings were in the pop/R&B;field, making this mostly straight-ahead session a major surprise. Albright, alternating between alto and tenor, plays quite well throughout this set, which is highlighted by versions of “Impressions,” “Georgia on My Mind,” and “Limehouse Blues.” Tenorman Kirk Whalum helps out on three tracks, and Eddie Harris makes a guest appearance on “Bubblehead McDaddy.” This is easily Gerald Albright’’s most rewarding session to date.
